The intact medieval and Art Nouveau architecture along with the 19th century wooden architecture, has put the historic centre of Riga on the World Heritage List. The main square is a great place to start exploring the twisted alleys and narrow streets. Called the city of parks and gardens, the open spaces are great for relaxing and the lively central market is a good focal point. Opera lovers can enjoy a performance in the National Opera Building.
