A volcanic archipelago, Japan offers an array of attractions, from historical and cultural treasures to modern and futuristic sights and beautiful forests, mountains and seacoasts. Nagasaki with picturesque harbour setting, smattering of temples and historical museums is a pleasant mixture of East and West. Just a stone throw away from Kyushu's coastline is The Seagaia Ocean Dome, a white sand beach complete with a splash of ocean under a blue sky, all in a controlled "natural environment". A day walk from Ebino-kogen Village to the peaks of strings of volcanoes is one of the finest volcanic hikes. The remote hot spring villages of Sounkyo, Tokachidake Onsen and Shirogane Onsen make good bases for hiking and skiing.
