The "city of beautiful towers," San Gimignano is a blissful medieval village set on a hill-top. This Tuscan beauty is easily accessible from Siena and Florence as a day trip, but to enjoy its true splendour (and to avoid the crowds), stay overnight. Visit the Spezieria di Santa Fina, fragrant halls with exhibits from the sixteenth-century spice and herb pharmacy.A chilling display of torture instruments housed in the Torture Museum is interesting. All in all a must see.
