The largest and highest of the Tuscan hill-towns, Montepulciano with its medieval alleyways, Renaissance palaces and churches makes a great base to discover this region. The surrounding lush countryside, vineyards and woodlands are great to explore on foot. The area is well known for the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano wine, so a visit to the wine cellars and taking a wine-tasting tour would be added attractions.
