Known as the 'Daughter of France' Versailles occupies an important place in the country's history. The main reason people visit here is for the oppulent Versailles palace. King Louis XIV was a great lover of music and the arts, so an array theatre, fetes and 'spectacles' dominate the cultural scene. It's well linked to Paris and easy to get to and from as a day trip.
