At the crossroads of the Loire and Cher Rivers, the city of Tours is an excellent centre for exploring the valley and region’s chateaus. It has a lively cultural scene and several museums. Well worth a wander is the stunning medieval quarter of Plumereau, with its quaint and inexpensive hotels, open-air cafes, pedestrian streets and boutiques.
