Situated in the southwestern corner of Finland, Turku is the oldest and capital city of the region. Boasting a medieval castle, an open-air museum, a fine cathedral, with theatres, festivals and art exhibitions, it has a versatile cultural life. During summer, the riverside cafés spill out onto the pavements, but in the winter the action takes place inside, as the river is often frozen over.
